Think Like an Attacker: Inside “Capture the Flag – Find the Threat”
You don’t learn cloud security by watching slides. You learn it by hunting -It’s competitive, it’s practical, and it rewards the people who can connect the dots fastest. following an attacker’s trail across a live environment, spotting the misconfiguration everyone else missed, and reaching the threat before it does real damage.
That’s the idea behind Capture the Flag: Find the Threat, a hands-on cloud-security challenge from Wiz and Europe Cloud. It drops you into a real cloud environment, hands you a mission, and starts the clock.
No theory. Just the hunt.
Led by a certified Wiz security expert, the challenge puts you inside realistic cloud attack scenarios. Your job is simple to state and hard to do: detect the vulnerabilities, trace the attack path, and neutralise the threat – before time runs out.
Modern cloud breaches rarely come down to a single dramatic flaw. They come from a chain: an internet-facing endpoint here, an exposed workload there, an over-permissioned role that quietly ties them together. Individually, each looks harmless. Combined, they become the path an attacker walks straight to your data. Learning to see that chain – to think in attack paths rather than isolated alerts — is one of the most valuable skills a cloud engineer can build. This challenge is designed to train exactly that instinct.
What you’ll actually do
Over a focused, fast-moving session, you’ll work through a live environment and:
- Detect vulnerabilities across a running cloud setup, the way an attacker would probe it.
- Trace attack paths from the entry point, through each compromised resource, to the hidden threat.
- Neutralise the threat – and capture the flag – under pressure, with the clock ticking.
It’s competitive, it’s practical, and it rewards the people who can connect the dots fastest.
Who should take part
The challenge is built for people who work in and around cloud security: security engineers, DevSecOps practitioners, cloud and platform engineers, and anyone responsible for keeping cloud environments safe. You don’t need to be a full-time red-teamer – but if you’re curious about how attackers actually move through the cloud, and you’d rather learn by doing than by listening, this is for you.
